Here I go!

I'm officially entering the blog world tonight, Christmas, December 25, 2007. I felt like I needed to add the exact date because of people like my son, Russell, who apparently wasn't aware that Christmas was on the same day every year. Last night, Christmas Eve, December 24th, he came to me with a desperate look on his face wondering if I had any extra gifts for family members that he could buy from me to give them. In his defense, I will have to say that he did try to find gifts for everybody, but Kings in Rigby just didn't have the perfect thing for everyone on his list. Rebecca and I bailed him out because, as usual, we did have extra gifts. Rebecca usually has extra gifts, well actually extra everything, because of indecision. She keeps buying things up until the moment of gift giving and then decides what of all her choices is the best. Then she wraps it, and I must say she is an excellent wrapper, gives it, and prepares to take everything that she didn't use back to the stores. I usually have extra gifts for everyone because of dementia. Either I forget that I already bought someone a present and buy something else or I buy it, can't remember where I put it, buy another one, and then find the one I lost. Anyway, everything turned out fun and fine except that Russell still owes me 20 bucks.

Dale and Angela and Mandy and Rachel came up and ate lunch with us. It is always fun to get together with them. We didn't have turkey and gravy and all the traditional stuff because, quite frankly, I was too lazy and couldn't face it. We had some really good pork roast cooked in green sauce. We just ate it like tacos. Angie made bean dip and a vegetable tray. Just to keep up a semblance of the traditional dinner we used to have at Nora's we did have crab salad. I missed Nora and getting together with everybody on the Batt side, but it was still a wonderful day. We had the Furness side of the family over later in the day. We were trying to change things up a bit so we asked people to dress up in ugly Christmas clothes. It was sort of a hangover from Rebecca's "Ugly Christmas Sweater" party. We actually had a great response and are befuddled, I love to use that word, as to who the winner of the Ugliest Christmas Outfit Contest should be. We truly had some great contenders. We decided to put up some pictures and put it up for a vote. So please leave a comment with suggestions. (Sorry we didn't get a picture of everybody that dressed up)

It was great fun talking to Tyler. Lee and Kim conferenced in on the call, who were in Utah with Kim's family. We found out that Tyler is healthy, happy, and still the same weight as when he left. We also found out that Lee is healthy, happy, and 5 pounds heavier than when he left Idaho on Saturday.

Okay, I want to end this by saying thanks to Alan, Rebecca, and Russell for pitching in and making it possible to have two parties in one day here. I try not to flip out under the pressure of having a party, but I usually do just a little. Thanks to Russell for vacuuming, shoveling the walk and making the chocolate, mint cookie, cream cheese things. Thanks to Becca for wrapping gifts, and getting up. Thanks to Alan for loving Christmas so much it gets everybody in a good mood, for cleaning the driveway so well, and for taking like a man when he t-boned his pickup with the skidster. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Will it be Jayce for best baby?...

Chris, for brightest shirt ever?

Or Jay for most amazing?

Most like Cousin Eddy?...

Best family participation?

Most seductive?

Most likely to be confused with an ornament?

Most likely to be just confused....?

Just plain cute?

Most "special" couple?

Most likely to be used as next year's Christmas card?

Proof that wackiness is hereditary?

I vote Rex for creepiest. Can I say that? Guys in turtlenecks creep me out...ESPECIALLY when it is a turtleneck dickie.

I have to say that I am impressed that Rex is a fan of Cousin Eddy. I too am a HUGE fan of him. (even though he's been out of a job for 7 years now--is what his wife, Kathrine said) I just watched Christmas Vacation 2 days ago!! Overall, I am bummed that I didn't make the party. It looks like fun was had by all!

Thanks for sponsoring the Furness Christmas ugly sweater party! What a fun time. Let's try a Tower of Babel party next time.

What do you mean by "special"? I hope you mean your most favorite niece and nephew-in-law. Imagine what we could've done if we had planned something?

Aunt Millie, I forgot to tell you the other night that I LOVED your oh holy tights! I was also wondering if Rex returned Uncle Alan's black dickie?
Thanks for another fun party! We are going to be sad when you guys leave and we have family parties where we just go sit and visit! You guys always make it so fun!

Cousin Eddy is my favorite and I'm totally impartial. Soooo sorry about the truck Uncle Alan. I too have had problems in the past with objects that don't move out of the way for me - like garage doors, car doors, and mail boxes. I love the idea of a fun blog - I need the laughs. Thanks. What is a Tower of Babel party?

I think the Tower of Babel party would mean we would have a party and all be assigned a different accent to speak. Remember at Kim's bridal shower and Grace was assigned the "curse" of speaking with a Mexican accent? She had such a good time doing it and thought she was sooo funny, which she was. Well, she has been talking about this "Tower of Babel" party ever since. It really could be fun, but somehow I'm afraid I'll be having the Tower of Babel feeling soon enough and it won't be that funny when I don't know Portuguese. I wonder if Cousin Eddy would tutor me.

To Lane and Audrey,
You were exactly right on with your thought about what I meant by
"special". I mean, what else could I possibly have been trying to say about you two?

Who is cousin Eddy?
I am amazed that Rex was able to keep his white outfit white. Must be that his kids don't glom guck all over him.
I vote for Audrey. Her outfit even had danglies.

I guess it is too late this year to watch Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. Maybe next year you can catch the tv version to meet Cousin Eddy. I need a dog like his.

I'll ask cousin Eddy about the Portuguese lessons. He might have some good materials for you to look at in all your free time;)

What are you?...a one hit blog wonder? What about the pictures from the Batt party?

To Becca,
Okay, Okay. I'll get on it. But I'm not sure I can do it without you. I thought I got the pictures from the Batt party off the camera and to the computer, but now I can't find them in any files on the computer. Please be patient or else BACK OFF. Love, MOM
